Printed copies will be available later in the spring from the Old Basing Village Shop and from Committee Members .

The Committee thanks all of the local organisations who have supported the Show by advertising in the schedule - a list of advertisers can be seen by clicking here.

Here are some of the changes that are in this year's Schedule:

  • The number of large shallots required in class 16 has been reduced from 9 to 5
  • In view of the lack of entries in the "plum or gages" class, it has been replaced by a new class for "3 pears".
  • Also, the class for a vase of "3 pelargonium heads" has been replaced by a new class for "3 hydrangea flowers".
  • Following the popularity of the Original Writing section introduced in 2022, the section will include:
    • An ACROSTIC poem where the first letter of each line, read vertically downwards, spells out the name of a place in Hampshire
    • A short story of no more than 500 words
    • An original limerick with a sporting theme
  • The homemade candle class in the handicraft section has been replaced by a class for "an item predominantly made from paper and/or card".
  • The subjects for the photography classes are:
    • Old Basing or Lychpit landmark
    • Sport
    • An unframed photo of an "Tunnel(s) and/or bridge(s)" mounted on a card
  • The Children's section includes:
    • A painting of a boat, not more than A4 size. Open to children aged 11 and under only
    • A painting or drawing in any medium. Open to children aged 12-15 only

Entry criteria

Entries are welcome from those who meet one (or more) of the following criteria:

  • be Resident in the Parish of Old Basing & Lychpit, or
  • be in permanent education or employment in the Parish of Old Basing & Lychpit, or
  • have a parent, partner’s parent or grandparent resident or working in the Parish of Old Basing & Lychpit

NOTE:  There are some minor exceptions to the entry criteria for Class 1 and for the Basinga Photography prizes. Full details can be found in the 2024 Schedule.

Entry deadlines

  • Class 1 A photograph of your hanging basket or planter. To be taken during July or August 2024 and to be emailed to no later than midnight on Sunday 1st September 2024. No late entries are permitted for this class.
  • All other classes 10.00pm on Wednesday 4th September 2024..
  • Late entries (except Class 1) 10.00pm on Friday 6th September.

Show Day - key times

  • The Village Hall is open at 8.00am for exhibitors to stage their entries.
  • The Hall closes to exhibitors at 10.15am and judging commences. Only judges, stewards and committee members are allowed in the Hall during judging.
  • The Hall opens to the public at 2.30pm.
  • Prize giving starts at 4.00pm.
